How we hire

The process is straightforward. We are looking for people who are a genuine fit — not candidates who can perform well in a formal assessment.

The process

Merion's hiring process has four stages. We do not make it more complicated than it needs to be.

  1. Application

Register your interest via our application page, or send a cover note and CV to [email protected] with the subject 'Careers — [role type]'. Tell us about your background, what you are looking for, and why Merion appeals. A clear, honest note is better than a polished one.

  2. Initial conversation

If your background matches something we are working on or expect to need, a member of the team will reach out for a short conversation — typically by phone or video. We use this to learn more about your experience and to give you an honest picture of the role and the firm. No assessment centres or trick questions.

  3. Meet the team

For roles that progress, we invite you to a more substantive conversation with the people you would be working with — and, for some roles, a short practical exercise relevant to the work. We will tell you in advance what to expect. This stage is two-way: ask everything you want to know.

  4. Offer

If it is a strong match on both sides, we will make an offer and move quickly once a decision is made. All offers are subject to reference checks appropriate to the role.

Our commitment to fair and inclusive hiring

Merion assesses candidates on the basis of their skills, experience, and fit for the work — nothing else. We are committed to hiring without discrimination on the basis of age, gender, cultural background, disability, or any other protected attribute under Australian law.

If you require any adjustments during the hiring process — for accessibility reasons or otherwise — please let us know at any point and we will accommodate where we reasonably can.

What we are looking for

Across every role, we are looking for people who share the same basic qualities:

  • Reliability. You do what you say you will do, on time, to a standard you would be comfortable defending.
  • Judgement. You can read a situation, prioritise appropriately, and raise it when something is not right.
  • Directness. You communicate clearly and honestly — with clients, debtors, and the team.
  • Compliance-mindedness. You understand that the rules exist for a reason and apply them without needing to be reminded.

Timeframes

We do not always have an immediate opening for every type of candidate. We keep expressions of interest on file and reach out when a relevant opportunity arises. If we are not in a position to progress your application, we will let you know.
