Client Relationship Manager
The primary contact for a portfolio of creditor clients — managing referrals, outcomes, and the commercial relationships that make Merion work.
What the role involves
A client relationship manager at Merion is the primary point of contact for a portfolio of creditor clients — typically businesses that have referred overdue accounts to Merion for commercial debt recovery. The relationship is ongoing: a client refers accounts, expects timely contact and recovery action, and relies on Merion to communicate outcomes accurately and promptly.
Day-to-day work spans the full lifecycle of that relationship. Onboarding a new client means understanding their business, their referral process, the quality of their documentation, and what they expect from Merion. Ongoing management means fielding queries, providing account-level updates, overseeing remittance statements and financial reporting, and identifying anything that is not working as it should.
Beyond the reactive work, a strong client relationship manager looks at each client's upstream credit control — the terms they issue, the documentation they collect, the point at which they refer — and identifies where improvements would reduce the age and difficulty of the accounts Merion receives. That kind of proactive commercial engagement is what separates a good account manager from one who is simply managing a queue.
The skills this role requires
Relationship management is the foundation. Clients are running businesses. They have their own pressures, their own reporting requirements, and their own views on what good service looks like. A client relationship manager at Merion is reliable, responsive, and commercially credible — the kind of contact a client trusts to handle their portfolio without constant hand-holding.
Commercial communication is equally important. Written updates, remittance reports, account summaries, and client-facing correspondence must be accurate, clear, and appropriately formal. Clients should be able to read a Merion report and immediately understand the state of their portfolio — without needing to ask follow-up questions.
Financial reporting is a daily reality. Reconciling payments, preparing remittance statements, managing client ledgers, and ensuring that money moves correctly between debtors, Merion, and the client requires precision and attention to detail. Comfort with financial data is not optional.
Onboarding new clients is a process that must be managed carefully. Poor onboarding produces referral quality problems — missing documentation, uncontactable debtors, disputed balances — that create downstream friction. A client relationship manager who onboards well sets the whole portfolio up for better outcomes.
Culture fit
The best client relationship managers here are commercially minded, precise, and genuinely enjoy the trusted-adviser dynamic. They find satisfaction in knowing a client's business well enough to anticipate their questions, and in being the kind of contact that a client chooses to call when they want a straight answer.
Merion communicates directly and documents thoroughly. A client relationship manager who is comfortable being held to what they have communicated — in writing, on the phone, or via the portal — will find this environment straightforward. One who prefers to keep things vague will not.
